Donald Trump described his 10-point plan for immigration reform to thousands of supporters at the Phoenix Convention Center. The presidential nominee articulated his plans for the US immigration crisis after returning from his trip to Mexico.
Late Tuesday night, Trump accepted an invitation to meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto, who invited both candidates to visit his country. The leaders held a joint press conference on Wednesday where they discussed bilateral relations and the border.
ICE, or the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has been effectively neutered by years of open border policies. Trump considers ICE reform to be central aspect of his immigration plan.
Trump also spoke optimistically about his ability to work with Mexico on securing the border.
"I really believe they want to solve this problem with us, and I believe they will. We will terminate the Obama administration's deadly, and it is deadly, non-enforcement policies,” Trump said.
Since 2006, the Mexican government's war on the drug cartels has seen over 164,000 deaths from homicides. These casualties amount to more than the civilian death toll for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
Hillary attacked Trump for accepting the invitation, lecturing Americans on her stunning example as Secretary of State.
"Getting countries working together was my job every day as your secretary of state. It's more than a photo op. It takes consistency and reliability. Actually, it's just like building personal relationships.”
"And," Hillary added yesterday, "it certainly takes more than trying to make up for a year of insults and insinuations by dropping in on our neighbors for a few hours and then flying home again. That is not how it works."
It's easy to see how the Democratic candidate felt threatened by Trump's stand-up behavior on Wednesday. Trump revealed his ability to negotiate with foreign leaders while maintaining a firm stance on policy.
Yet, it is the former secretary of state herself who sacrificed US leverage when she accepted millions of dollars from dictators in the Middle East. Do we really expect autonomous foreign policy from someone accepting millions from other governments?
Here is Trump's 10-point plan for restoring American sovereignty.
“Number One: We will build a wall along the Southern Border.”
“Number Two: End Catch-And-Release.”
“Number Three: Zero tolerance for criminal aliens.”
“Number Four: Block Funding For Sanctuary Cities.”
“Number Five: Cancel Unconstitutional Executive Orders & Enforce All Immigration Laws.”
“Number Six: We Are Going To Suspend The Issuance Of Visas To Any Place Where Adequate Screening Cannot Occur.”
“Number Seven: We will ensure that other countries take their people back when we order them deported.”
“Number Eight: We will finally complete the biometric entry-exit visa tracking system.”
“Number Nine: We will turn off the jobs and benefits magnet.”
“Number 10: We will reform legal immigration to serve the best interests of America and its workers."
