"A bomb exploding in New York is an act of terror but not limited to international terrorism. That's how we are going to consider it," New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told a press conference.
A spokesman for the Minnesota FBI, Kyle Loven, would not confirm whether the attacks at Crossroads Center mall constituted an act of terror. Local authorities report a man disguised as a security guard stabbed eight people after asking if they were Muslim.
Around 9:30 am on Saturday, one bomb detonated in a garbage can near the Semper Five Run, a military charity event held in Seaside, New Jersey. Two additional pipe bombs were found along the event's planned route, a tactic similar to the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.
Later on Saturday night, a bomb exploded from a dumpster in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood, injuring 29 people. A few blocks away, authorities located another planted device, a pressure cooker wrapped in duct tape attached to wiring and a cell phone.
Governor Cuomo announced 1,000 extra police will be reinforcing subways, airports and other public spaces to protect New Yorkers going about their daily business.
“By the time I left my coworker had texted me saying they had all gone into lockdown in the mall. There were no notifications in the mall at all, it was just people running and screaming,” a JCPenny's employee told local news in St. Cloud, Minn.
The knife-wielder's rampage was reportedly cut short after an off-duty policeman shot the Muslim terrorist to death.
Authorities confirmed they are investigating potential links between the separate bombs planted in New Jersey and New York City.
Both presidential candidates acknowledged the attacks within hours.
"I must tell you that just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what's going on," Trump said at a campaign rally in Colorado.
“But boy, we are living in a time – we better get very tough, folks. We better get very, very tough. We'll find out. It's a terrible thing that's going on in our world, in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant. – We'll see what it is. We'll see what it is."
Around midnight on Saturday, a tired Hillary emerged from her chambers to meet the press.
“I’ve been briefed about the bombings in New York and New Jersey, as well as the attack in Minnesota,” Hillary said.
“We have to let this investigation unfold. We've been in touch with various officials, including the mayor's office in New York, to learn what they are discovering as they conduct this investigation. And I'll have more to say about it when we actually know some facts,” Hillary said.
Then one reporter once again revealed the reflexive bias of the media.
As images and reports of planted explosives circulated on Saturday, the media questioned whether Trump saying "bomb" is "an appropriate term."
